Ceiling Drip Diverters
These large vinyl tarps are hung from the ceiling with bungee cords hooked into grommets or high-strength magnets to attach to metal ceiling rafters. This creates a funnel that allows the water to drip down the center, into a hose that empties into a sump pump, or drain.

Since leak diverters come in all sizes, and you most likely do not know what size you'll need when the leak strikes, it's recommended to keep a mid-sized diverter on hand for emergencies.
